What can I do if my hot tub is not heating?

We recommend trying a few troubleshooting steps before setting a repair appointment if your hot tub is not heating. Before completing any of the steps below, take note of any error codes on your control panel. Any codes present will aid a technician in diagnosing your issue if a service call is required.

The most common codes you may see that can cause a hot tub not to heat are, DRY, FLC, FLO, HL, HOH and HOT. The most common preventable cause of a hot tub not heating is a dirty filter. Your hot tub filter should be cleaned on a monthly basis at a minimum. Some owners find that cleaning filters bi-weekly is necessary during heavy use. If you are finding that you are needing to clean your filters more often than usual it may be time for a replacement as most paper media hot tub filters have a lifespan of 12-18 months.

Power down your spa and clean all filters using the procedure outlined in your owner’s manual. After cleaning and reinstalling your filters, power the spa back on and see if it begins to heat. If you are still having issues with your hot tub not heating you will want to, check your water level, check the filter intake, make sure the filter skimmer is not sticking in the up position, and check for an airlock. See our blog article for more details on the troubleshooting steps above.

Is it Worth it to Repair a Hot Tub?

We see an increasing amount of customers choosing to repair their hot tubs rather than purchasing a replacement. Quality new hot tubs start at around $10,000 and can exceed $20,000 fully loaded. If a hot tub has been well maintained the serviceable lifespan can exceed 15 years. Our initial service call includes an assessment of the major components of your hot tub along with repair costs and repair options. At the conclusion of our assessment, you will have all the information needed to make the decision to repair or replace based on the current condition of your spa.
